Tidying some pencils

Some pencils were scattered around on my desk. I picked them up one by one. I placed the pencils in the drawer which I use to store pencils.

I didn’t, never have, and never will join “Twitter” but to me this looks like what it’s all about…

    I found your blog.

    I read through 353 comments,

my eyes began to glaze over.. the words scrolled past me in a blur.. I wondered why on earth I was doing this.

I could not stop reading. I began to rock backwards and forwards in a slightly traumatized manner. I realised I will never get those hours back.

Now I have reached the end, I shall click “Submit Comment” and go find a corner in which to curl up and cry.

Pencils are a fascinating invention. They still write underwater. Fill up your bathtub and try it.

The blog is fine and the comments make it so much more….
I can waste some time here!

I find so many of the comments to your blog to be exciting that I start to tire reading them and as i lose my attention… i scan and scroll on looking for something more boring; boring but not tedious and simpleminded. The commentary is absolutely loathsome.
It is now clear to the world, that a vast majority of the world lacks a truly unique idea, but the world is too obsessed with the world to be the world themselves. I hope you agree.

now, on the subject of your blog: I use carpenter pencils now mostly, they are in a more oblong shape than the #2’s. I don’t let them get scattered because i only use one at a time. So, my question is: why would you have them scattered in the first place?

  15. mr conformist says:

to clarify: i don’t scatter pencils and that is why i asked. I was not trying to judge you.

    Dear Cariboss & friends –

Tried to follow up on the exciting, compelling, and most poignant for our time story of What Happened to Stevie the Geek.

Because I’m a dullard in general and particularly stupid when comes to computers, I couldn’t figure out how to post the update on the renovated website here.

But now I have. And I promise you, i shall shortly and without fail tell the rest of the story about Stevie the Geek.

It is a point of honor to finish the story, to not finish it would be to desecrate the memory of one of the mid-century’s greatest thinkers, Stevie the Geek.

    More shortly to follow.

    Yours in dullness,

  24. rayburn says:

I used to chew all my pencils when I was a kid so that they were all rough and the paint flaked off so they looked like leprosy. One advantage was that nobody wanted to steal them.

Pencils are great. They still write without having tidied up.

  29. Will says:

It is rarely advisable to store your pencils in a draw. You will soon find your collection of pencils is under-utilised and become tempted to replenish it via a trip to the stationers. Before long your new pencils will find themselves in a similar predicament to your old pencils,”scattered” across the desk. At which stage it is more than likely you will repeat the same mistake of “placing” them in a “draw”. Cycles such as these used to repeat themselves ad infinitum until the invention of the simple desk-tidy in the mid 1920s.

  33. Tim says:

I enjoy writing with a newly-sharpened pencil. I like the crispness of the letters, and how you have to blow away a bit of excess graphite powder when you’re finished with the letter, word, or sentence you’re writing.

It can’t be too sharp, though. Then it pokes holes or cuts small recesses in the paper as you write. I find the sensation produced by this action unpleasant.

Putting blunt or broken pencils away will only lead to disappointment at some point in the future. Consider sharpening before filing. :)
